As a scientist with college degree in Astronomy, minor in Physics and Mathematics, I was appalled to find folks telling outright falsities and presenting bad science to bolster suspicion of our known accepted reality - that the Earth is a beautiful blue globe.

This blog clearly shows scientific proofs that debunk everything that flat Earth proponents claim.  Here we also expose the comments those YouTube video channels delete, because they don't want you to see them.

The Earth is not flat.  That claim is a conspiracy theory perpetrated by ignorant people who have ulterior personal motives and agendas.

The Earth is a beautiful blue spheroid globe spinning on an axis 23.5° once each day, and orbiting the Sun every 365.25 days.

Dear Brian's Logic,

It's unfortunate that your lack of science understanding and susceptibility to conspiracy theories has led you down this wrong path.  The Earth is a beautiful blue globe spinning on axis once per day, and in revolution around the Sun.

When you believe in a conspiracy theory because you want it to be true, that's when you get into trouble.  You are currently on the wrong side of history.

As the title says, we have a look at the basics of how a sextant works and is used for celestial navigation by mariners, aviators and on land. You can learn the principles of the sextant and find your location (roughly) simply by measuring the shadow of a stick and calculating the zenith angle of that shadow. You then use the same nautical almanac and mathematics to find your position as you would with a sextant... We will have a series of videos going through the process step by step. Try it.

FE Scholar Brian's Logic decided to 'challenge' me in a video the other day on the Haversine Equation, Formula and Great Circle Distances. Unfortunately he has no more understanding of Great Circles than he did of Gyrocompasses.

We go over straight line vs great circle distances in this video and I correct Brian on the Haversine Formula and its' uses. Otis the Cat and Little Missy helped with the video.

NOTE CORRECTION::::
Michael pointed out a math error I made. When doing the Law of Cosines to determine the distance between Perth and Sydney, I made an error and reported the distance as 3.51 inches. It is actually 3.87 inches which compares well with the 3.85 inches I measured. The flat earth distance is over 4400 NM, the Haversine gave it as 1777 NM and the actual distance is 1778 NM. The globe earth is verified by distance and the flat earth is ruled out, again.

Brian's Logic and I have gone back and forth for the last week or so as I try, in vain, to educate him on the meaning of Great Circles, Rhumb lines and the Haversine Equation (which finds the angle between your start point, the center of the earth and your destination) and the Haversine Formula (which takes the Haversine Equation result and converts it to a distance).

Despite very gentle correction, he simply doubles down. So lets put it all out there on the white board for all to see. Will he learn something????
