Flat Earth International Conference (USA) 2018 - Update.  The final tally is now in. 
The speakers included 23 creationists and 0 scientists





Creationist = a person who believes that the universe and living organisms originate from specific acts of divine creation, as in the biblical account.

Scientist = a person who is studying or has expert knowledge of one or more of the natural or physical sciences.

Make no mistake.  There is nothing wrong with science or the evidence that proves the Earth is a globe, spinning on axis, and in orbit around the Sun.  

Flat Earth is primarily a Christian biblical literalist attempt to change public opinion, in favor of the Bible and against science.  This has been going on since the time of Galileo.

YouTube celebrity Logan Paul has now joined the Flat Earth craze.  There seems to be no measure of how far flat Earth lunacy has spread.

During the following interview with Logan Paul, it's easy to get the impression that Logan has no clue or understanding of science, and why flat Earth talking points "allegedly" disprove a globe.  He just keeps saying that "The Earth is Flat" as if it's an established, which most certainly IS NOT.

After Logan Paul made his appearance Mark Sargent left the conference.  Mark immediately went up to his room, packed his bags, and flew back home.  He did not give the conference sessions that he was schedule for.

New twist to the flat Earth fantasy, as claimed by (Sleeping Warrior) Anthony Riley  

Anthony Riley now says that all photos and all videos and all surveying instruments show that the Earth is spherical.  But the Earth is not spherical, it's just that every optical device, including the human eye, distorts what we see to make it that way. 

So then the human eye, every camera, and every theodolite - distorts the flat Earth by just the right amount to make it look spherical?  Bollocks.

Expect changes to YouTube content and other social media platforms

Legislation: Directive Of The European Parliament And Of The Council On Copyright In The Digital Single Market 

On September 12, 2018, the European Union passed Article 13, a controversial Copyright Directive which will affect how companies and people in Europe use and profit from the internet.

Article 13 states, "online content sharing service providers and right holders shall cooperate in good faith in order to ensure that unauthorized protected works or other subject matter are not available on their services." 

There are still negotiations and another vote before each EU Country will even work out how to implement these laws.

The EU’s copyright directive, Article 13 has come under scrutiny yet again from national and international media. Now an official response from YouTube was recently published on the official YouTube Creator Blog. In the post, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki pushed back against these proposed European copyright legislation changes.

As we all know, YouTube is the biggest video hosting service on the planet, with more than 400 hours of video content uploaded every minute to the website. These proposed copyright regulation changes present a major problem for YouTube, as the company would be liable to determine who the original right holders are and then pay each accordingly.

This is actually the second post from Wojcicki on the EU Article 13 issue, although this is the first time she has admitted that YouTube lacks the technical and monetary capabilities to truly police these proposed copyright restrictions by the European Union...

Article 13 = would in practice force online platforms that host significant amounts of user-uploaded works to filter all content for copyrighted materials and prevent the upload of those works unless a license has been agreed to. If the platforms don’t do this, they would be liable for copyright infringements of their users.

Article 11 = dubbed "the link tax," would require search engines and other sites to pay the original copyright holder for use of their material.

Bob Knodel (Globebuster) caught lying about his aviation credentials (uncovered by Wolfie6020)

Back in April 2018 Bob was quoted (see below) as being a "commercial/instrument/MEL licensed pilot."


   


But here at the official FAA site, Robert Knodel is listed as only holding a certificate as a Private Pilot, and his medical class = Third, was issued in 1978.  Wolfie6020 points out that a commercial pilot needs to have a medical class rating of 1 or 2. 

=> proof that Bob Knodel is not, or has ever been, a commercial pilot (as he had claimed).  He is only an amateur private pilot with a single engine rating.  The last time he did a medical was 40-years ago.

YouTube "Flat Out" channel has accepted that Wolfie6020 met the challenge requirements and should be awarded the $100,000.

I encountered Robbie Davidson, the organizer of the conference, in a corridor outside the ballroom. Davidson is the director and sole employee of Kryptoz Media, a company based in Edmonton, Canada. He is tall and sharp-featured, and when he speaks his sentences spill into one another. He told me that he was turned on to the flat-Earth scene in 2015; before that, Kryptoz was marketing cryptocurrencies to everyday consumers. He described the modern flat-Earth community as a confluence of three strains of thought. “There’s the conspiratorial,” he said. “It’s like, ‘That’s kind of weird with the moon landing. Maybe I’ll look into it. What else could they be lying about?’ ” The second is “the scientific-minded,” people who “just want to go out and do the experiments.” The third, Davidson said, “is the spiritual—people that want to say, ‘Wait a minute, what would happen if I took the Bible literally?’ ” In style and substance, the flat-Earth movement is a close cousin of creationism.   At the end of the conference, Davidson would be screening his new documentary, “Scientism Exposed 2,” which dismisses dinosaurs, evolution, gravitational waves, and a spherical Earth as part of a broad agenda “to hide the true creator of Creation,” according to the trailer.

Astronaut Richard Garriott debates flat earther Andrew Lankes (aka Friend of Yahway) on 93.7 KLBJ FM

At first Andrew Lankes was surprised and terrified that sitting across from him in the radio studio was a former astronaut.  Then as time progressed he felt more at ease and started throwing the standard flat Earth talking points at Richard Garriott.  Richard Garriott addressed each item from the standpoint of rationality and scientific evidence.  But in the end that failed to change the mind of Andrew Lankes.

Richard Garriott spent time on the ISS (International Space Station) and told Andrew point blank that he personally witnessed the Earth being a globe.  Yet Andrew would not believe it, accusing the astronaut of being part of THE conspiracy.

So ladies and gentlemen.  Here we have it.  A prime example (Andrew Lankes) of human thought/emotional intransigence in the face of logic, reality and facts.

But at the end of the interview, we find out that Andrew's tenacious position is driven by his Christian belief in a Creator....

Nathan Oakley’s new “angle of attack” explanation, debunked and shot down by fellow colleague Ranty Flat Earth


Rather than acknowledging that distant objects disappear from the bottom-up due to blockage by Earth curvature (like the bottom of boats going over the horizon until totally gone), he claims that the “angle” of the observer causes that effect.  But according to 10th grade Euclidian Geometry, that is just nonsense.  

Disappearing From Bottom Up on Flat Plane - Debunked, because his experimental plane is not flat as claimed. 
[The camera and book are both not on the same floor.  The book is in another room where the flooring is lower.]

After watching his video we wonder if he is just willfully ignorant, or knowingly deceitful.

Iru Landucci – ArFlat Balloon on October 6, 2018 was successfully launched.  But during the ascent communication with the balloon was lost at an altitude of 20-km.  Now the camera payload has been reported to be found, but a REWARD is demanded for its return.


   

Update November 13, 2018

Continued rain and cold weather at the La Pampa (Argentina) expected payload landing site has caused suspension of the search.

All cameras and recorded video are for now considered lost.

ARFLAT OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUÉ v1.0

ESTIMATED VERY GOOD DAYS / AFTERNOONS / NIGHTS DEPENDING ON THE PLACE WHERE THEY ARE!

As is public knowledge we have launched the ArFLAT v1.0 with a total success, a spectacular day from La Pampa, Argentina, and with all the weather in our favor.

We inform you all by this means. again, our TOTAL thanks, given that without their collaboration, this mission could not have been carried out.

In the coming days we will be reporting the exact date we will give in a live YouTube through the channel "Nur for All", the information of what happened, and will be available first for you all the images and videos of the project, launch and Recovery.
Minutes of what happened in launch and recovery:  On Saturday at 10.30 hs (local Argentina) we launched, with all the previous preparation, from La Pampa, the balloon with different loads (our main load, another load with live camera, the tracker and a load of safety detachment emergency) which was sent to the air with total success and monitored with live video up to 3 thousand meters of altitude and 70 km of radius approx.) and tracked continuously up to 20 thousand meters of altitude AGL, where suddenly at 11: 23 hs (local time Argentina) we have lost total communication with it.

At the same time our logistics team was at the time of the launch 150 km away near the area of ​​probable fall according to the predictions of the wind for that day.

Given the unexpected event of total loss of communication, and not being able to locate it, the search and rescue procedure was started, taking us all the rest of Saturday from noon (approximate time of fall and touch the ground (13.10-13.30 hs) until it got dark.           

When not being able to locate it physically with all the rescue logistics and not having information of the tracker, we only locate by the predictions of probable zone of fall, that is extensive and of very difficult access as you will see in the videos and images that we are going to supply them .

On Saturday, part of the logistics team and collaborators undertook the return home to Buenos Aires, and a small group stayed overnight and returning on Sunday to continue the search.  On Sunday several fields were surveyed, entering them asking for authorization from their owners, traveling with drone from the view from the air on the vast mountains.
We reached the night on Sunday, and return to our homes unable to even recover the load.

It is understood that the help and logistics in the place was arduous, and each of the collaborators had their obligations to return to Buenos Aires.

Given this, a search and rescue committee was set up to return to the area, and continue with the survey until finding the fallen load or what is found of it. That is why internally a collaboration of money has been started in order to face the logistics expenses.

It is not enough to tell you that we will send you the details of all the expenses for the project, where it is explicit that the money contributed by you is spent.

From our analysis, the biggest cost was facing the logistics move in terms of the fuel to move and the helium that consumed the balloon, using almost 8m3 of it (at usd 65 x m3), and we must continue contributing on our behalf to be able to conclude the move, since the proceeds did not cover everything.

Again we communicate our total gratitude, the working group is currently collecting all the photos and documentation of the project to be able to supply them. Notice that for the camera lens shown below, the "field of view" is at best 90-degress.  It is severaly limited by the packaging material.    

To photograph small values of Earth curvature, a 180-degree panoramic view is necessary.  Anything less than that will be disqualified by our staff - since it it not wide enough to capture whatever curvature is present at the location.
[No fisheye; need a 24-35 mm focal length, genuine wide angle lens]

Therefore the experiment was rigged (knowingly or unknowing due to ignorance) to show only a flat horizon, and not what truly could be seen. 

Things you should know:

In photography, a rectilinear lens is a photographic lens that yields images where straight features, such as the walls of buildings, appear with straight lines, as opposed to being curved. In other words, it is a lens with little or no barrel or pincushion distortion. At particularly wide angles, however, the rectilinear perspective will cause objects to appear increasingly stretched and enlarged as they near the edge of the frame. These types of lenses are often used to create forced perspective effects.

A rectilinear lens has much less lateral visual amplitude.  Considering their small 90-degree field of vision thru the box, that all but guarantees that ONLY A FLAT HORIZON will be on the photographs.

Instead, they should have used a high quality wide-angle lens with built in rectilinear correction. 

Their payload does not have one.

As the title of this piece portrays, science is correct and true.  There is nothing wrong with the science that supports the Earth as a globe, spinning on an axis, and in orbit around the Sun with our other planets.

The flat Earth debate is about people who do not believe in science, doubt authority and are suspect of what they can’t personally verify or understand.

Contrary to flat Earth denial, the distance to the Sun is well known (93-million miles).  The transit of Venus expedition.

Over the millennia different techniques have been used to measure the Sun’s distance from the Earth (see chart above).  In modern times that distance has been measured to greater and greater accuracy.

But the tale of the 1761 transit of Venus attempt, which started international scientific cooperation and was conducted during wartime, proved to be a heroic successful undertaking.

A case in point was a British expedition to Sumatra (an island in modern-day Indonesia) funded by the Royal Society and led by astronomer Charles Mason and surveyor Jeremiah Dixon (the two who would later become famous for marking the boundary between Pennsylvania and Maryland). Just 24 hours after departing from Portsmouth, their frigate, the HMS Seahorse, was attacked and seriously damaged in a battle with the more heavily armed French frigate L'Grand. Mason and Dixon hunkered down in the bowels of their ship and listened to their fellow crewmen scream in agony as they were cut down by artillery and musket fire. Overall, 11 British sailors died and 37 were wounded. After an hour of fierce combat, the Seahorse was forced to return to port (but not before giving chase to the fleeing L'Grand).

As any sane person can imagine, Mason and Dixon lacked enthusiasm for another trip. But threatened with prosecution and severe punishment if they didn't try again, Mason and Dixon set sail once their ship was repaired. This time they avoided contact with French ships. But as they were sailing southward in the Atlantic, they realized they had no chance of reaching Sumatra in time for the transit. So they showed up unannounced at the Dutch colony of Cape Town in modern-day South Africa. The Dutch were neutral in the war, and the colonial administrators were sympathetic to the scientific nature of the expedition. The team was permitted to disembark and set up their equipment. Mason and Dixon caught the second half of the transit, the only successful observation of the 1761 transit from the Southern Hemisphere.

1.  The Sun does appear to get progressively smaller as it sets.

This is demonstrably untrue as you have seen in this video.  Others have used solar filters to demonstrate that such claims are completely FALSE.  Do not be taken in by footage in which the Sun is over exposed!

2.  The angle at which objects are observed causes them to seem to disappear from the bottom up.  The smaller the angle the greater the amount of the object appears hidden from view.

This video will address this claim directly and show that it is FALSE.

3.  The atmosphere magnifies the Sun in such a way that the normal effect of angular size reduction due to distance is counteracted so the Sun always appears to be the same size even though it is moving away.

This claim is also FALSE and I present some evidence here which contradicts this claim.

There may be other claimed explanations for how the setting Sun is possible on a flat Earth.  If so please feel free to post them in the comments & I will try to address them in future videos.

The current concerted efforts to undermine science education…

A coalition of apologetics ministries and pseudoscience propaganda mills determined to spread misinformation across all public media including the classroom.

To cause confusion about and rejection of science in an effort that was accidentally publicly admittedly intended to promote religious fundamentalism instead, as if that were the default alternative or even qualified as an alternative at all.

It is dishonest empty unsupported speculation as if it were a matter of verifiable fact, yet that’s what all (flat Earth) proponents do because they get real science wrong. 

They object to astronomy, cosmology, tectonics, geologic history, biochemistry, heliocentrism, and in some cases science as a whole (in principle and in practice).

Nowadays before a hypothesis can graduate to the level of theory it has to be effectively proven, at least in a colloquial sense, by demonstrating profound predictive and explanative power and by withstanding a substantial battery of critical analysis in peer review.         

In the United States this is a cultural war issue. But when it’s faith verses fact, factual based reality always wins.

When you have no evidence there’s literally nothing to talk about.  Science is only concerned with what is supported by evidence and whatever is not supported doesn’t warrant serious consideration.

PS - It would be nice if Jason and Ronnie were able to do this experiment, because their professional surveyor using a theodolite (a precision optical instrument for measuring angles between designated visible points in the horizontal and vertical planes) would inform then that over the total length of 3-miles - vis-a-vis the 4x4 posts - there is noticeable deviation from level => the Earth is curved.

PS - There are also fluid dynamic issues that they don't understand, which will invalidate their expected drip-tube water level anticipated results.

PS - The local county/government authorities would never grant them a permit to setup 4x4 posts and tubing in the sand - extending into the water on a public beach - where hundreds if not thousands of people would be swimming during Labor Day weekend.  Such tubing poses a risk to swimmers for entanglement and possible drowning.  If they just show up at the beach (with no permit) the cops will descend on them rather quickly for posing a risk to the swimming public.

PS - For the above reasons and others, the experiment will never be completed.

The study of the motion of the nearby stars can be used to determine the mass of the black hole.

In the country of Chile (South America) the Large and Small Magellanic clouds are clearly visible in the night sky.   How come we don’t see them from New York or London?

Simple, because the Earth is not flat… 

The Magellanic Clouds (or Nubeculae Magellani) are two irregular dwarf galaxies visible in the Southern Celestial Hemisphere; they are members of the Local Group and are orbiting the Milky Way galaxy.

   

If the Earth were flat, all stars would be visible from anywhere. But that is not the case.  The north star Polaris is not visible south of the Earth’s equator.   The Magellanic Clouds are not visible from North America. 

The star constellations that we see in the night sky are visible the way they are, only because the Earth is a rotating globe.

Landing airplanes with GPS is not a new concept. People were demonstrating the feasibility back in the early 1990s. But landing transport airplanes in commercial airline service is something that’s only just getting to be a regular occurrence.

LAAS (also known as Ground-Based Augmentation System — GBAS) is a ground-based landing system which uses GPS to guide aircraft to a runway — there is a local ground installation with several antennas around the airfield, and a VHF radio uplink to approaching aircraft. It all works if the aircraft is also equipped with a VHF receiving radio and a LAAS-configured airborne GPS receiver. There’s also likely a Flight Management System (FMS) on the aircraft that enables navigation within today’s complex air-traffic-control systems. The LAAS system on the ground works high-integrity and provides precision GPS corrections to the aircraft GPS.

WAAS (also known as Satellite-Based Augmentation System — SBAS) also has parts which are ground based, in that there are a number of widely separated ground stations (hundreds of miles apart, across the whole country), each installed with a number of GPS receivers which, together with a ground data analysis system, assess the performance of the GPS constellation. A WAAS correction signal is then sent up to geostationary satellites which re-broadcast the correction signal to aircraft equipped with WAAS-configured GPS receivers flying within the geo signal footprint. The airborne receiver gets higher accuracy combined signals and an integrity message which regulates en-route and approach navigation.

As described in the article below, measure how much a standard 500-gram weight actually weighs, at various locations (north or south) on the Earth. The weight will change in accordance with the rotational centripetal force applied to it. At the North Pole it will weigh 500-grams. At the equator it will weight 498.2696-grams, because the centrifugal force created by the Earth's rotation tends to throw it off. That makes it a tiny bit lighter.

How much you weigh depends upon where you are on the Earth, because its a rotating sphere.

Greetings, If you believe that an object's weight cannot change by traveling north-south on a giant spinning sphere, you have no understanding of physics at all. Look up how centrifugal force operates.
The experiment presented is easy, testable and reproducible by anyone. 
Just drive from Miami Florida to Detroit Michigan. Or drive anywhere in the world (north or south from your home) for at least 500-miles, for reliable results.
That is not asking anyone to go to the poles or into space.
You are not following the scientific method as you said you would - because you want to prohibit the experiment from ever being conducted.

Throw the ball and it travels in a straight line.  But inside the spinning frame of reference it gets deflected to the right.  That "apparent" force of deflection is the Coriolis.

You can correct for this by banking the airplane 0.004 degrees.  


   


That means raising the wing edge by only 0.17 inch.


   


So, since the Coriolis effect is so VERY VERY tiny, a correction is just ignored.  It's so slight we don't take it into account.  It makes no sense.

Instead, the flight path is adjusted as needed.

Q4 - if that be true, then why do the following items (the 4 listed below) all fall at the same rate-speed of acceleration?

Q5 - Based on your statement about density/gravity, items of higher density should fall faster, but they don't.  Why not? 

Iron pipe = 7.8 grams/cm³

Lead pipe = 11.3 grams/cm³

Ice cube at 0 degrees Celsius = 0.92 grams/cm³

Wood log = 1.0 grams/cm³

The buoyancy of any object is determined by a) fluid density that the object is in, b) displaced volume, and the Earth's gravitation constant - 9.8 m/s²

So the buoyancy of all objects on the Earth depend upon the strength of gravity.  No = no buoyancy = the object will just float.
